Elizabeth Saltzman
Stylist
The longtime fashion stylist is known for her decisive and unexpected picks for her clients and behind-the-scenes support for young designers.
Elizabeth Saltzman is a contributing editor to Vanity Fair and British Vogue and a London-based stylist. Dressing celebrities like Gwyneth Paltrow, Saoirse Ronan, Phoebe Waller-Bridge, Sandra Oh, Jodie Comer and Uma Thurman in Emilio Pucci , Stella McCartney and Antonio Berardi, she ensures her clients regularly appear on best dressed lists.
With the initial intent to pursue architecture at first, fashion was only an afterthought to Saltzman. Eventually, she took up the fashion career route following her mother, who was a fashion director for Saks Fifth Avenue and Bergdorf Goodman. Saltzman began her career in public relations for Giorgio Armani in 1983. She accredits her styling debut to a friendship with Giancarlo Giammetti of Valentino, who suggested Saltzman try her hand at styling. By a turn of fortunate events in 1985, she moved on to US Vogue. Saltzman was quickly promoted to senior fashion editor at the magazine, a position she held for eight years until she left to join Vanity Fair as fashion editor. Saltzman was promoted by the magazine to fashion director in 1995.
Saltzman is one of the industry’s most in-demand stylists, at liberty to commission pieces from the world’s top designers, such as ivory caped Tom Ford gown Paltrow wore to the 2012 Academy Awards. In 2019, Sandra Oh, the first woman of Asian descent to be awarded Best Leading Actress in a Television drama since 1980, approached Saltzmann for the Golden Globes. Saltzman pulled custom dresses from Versace and Stella McCartney to dress Oh for what would become a career-defining moment.
In 2017, Saltzman collaborated with Californian footwear label Rocket Dog, designing a capsule collection of platform sandals.
